I know it’s only August, but it’s the start of *my* new year. 🙂
In 2011, my birthday cake was the last thing I ate before starting a new journey into a paleo/primal diet. I ‘fell off the wagon’ over the 2011 holidays and never really got back on. I was 50 pounds lighter than my highest weight and I was feeling cheeky. 😉 What began as an occasional treat turned into an experiment with a gluten-free, albeit quite high-carb diet. It didn’t work that well for my daughter who has Crohn’s and it certainly didn’t work for me! I gained 23 pounds but have since managed to lose 8 of those (thanks to 2.5 months in community theater) so I’m only 15 pounds over my lowest 2011 weight. I saw a personal trainer for 8 weeks earlier this year, so I know I have more muscle. 🙂 I guess it’s not all fat. Anyway…
I know it’s silly to pick a date to start a lifestyle change, but that just seems to work for my brain. I did start somewhat gradually…cutting out soda over the last two weeks. I meant to cut out dessert too but I’ve had some cravings. *blush* I love sweet tea and lemonade so I’ve got some stevia and I’m ready to give up sugar and grains. I’m dusting off my paleo/primal cookbooks and ordering a couple more for my birthday. I plan to audition again in mid-November and I’d like to shed that stubborn 15 pounds, plus another 15, before auditions.
Since it’s actually 2am on my birthday, I haven’t actually had our traditional birthday dinner. I’ve requested no cake and that we all just split a dessert or two among the six of us. That way there won’t be cake here calling to me on the 18th. 🙂
I know exercise (and just being more active in general) is also important, so I’ve been swimming several times per week and I’m ready to head back to the gym. Jake and I agreed to work out together 3-4 times per week and Kayla agreed to watch the little ones. I also promised to attend Zumba twice a week with Kayla. So I’ll be busy, that’s certain! Even if the pounds don’t melt away as fast as last time, I’m sure I’ll feel a lot of benefits. 🙂
