….was a total no-go. Monday AM we found out that there were half a dozen cash offers and that the seller wouldn’t even read an FHA offer.
So…back to the drawing board we went. Tuesday I embarked on a long day of house-viewing with our agent, who had set up 8+ appointments and had made sure none were expecting or already had an offer(s).
Houses one and two weren’t impressive at all. They were OK, but when we acknowledged that horse property likely wasn’t going to happen, I decided that I really was going to make sure I could *love* our new home in spite of the loss of that dream.
The third house was one I’d almost passed on…it was more expensive than the new lowered price range we’d chosen and the interior pictures were terrible. The front felt welcoming to me in the pic, however, so we saw it. And so glad are we that we did!
I fell in love the moment we got inside and exploring the house was a wonderful adventure that consisted of finding more and more little surprises around every corner. We have a list of about three dozen “requirements” and this house met all but one–it’s two car garage. But it has 5 bedrooms (two downstairs for the teens…yes!), an office space, two large living areas, two roomy dining areas, an inside laundry room that you don’t have to walk through to get into the house from the garage, a view of common space, green belt, open skies and mountain ranges, north/south exposure, in our “key” geographical area, three full bathrooms, easy access, nice subdivision, five years old or less, large backyard with grass (and room for a future pool), roomy bedrooms, lots of storage and lots of architectural interest.
We made an offer, they countered verbally to meet us halfway and we accepted. Now, praise G-d, to get the loan done without any nightmares or snags. Since the house is $100k less than what we qualify for, we can only hope it will just go smoothly. I am so grateful for this opportunity for our family!
